Two International Workshops on Mykhailo Drahomanov Held in Lausanne and Kyiv

On November 2025, as part of the Swiss-Ukrainian research initiative “Mykhailo Drahomanov: Switzerland on Ukraine’s Intellectual Map of Europe,” two international workshops focusing on the Swiss period (1876–1889) and intellectual legacy of Mykhailo Drahomanov took place in Lausanne and Kyiv. The project, launched in January 2025, is a joint endeavor by the University of Lausanne (Switzerland) and the Institute of History of Ukraine, NAS of Ukraine, under the “Ukrainian–Swiss Joint Research Projects: Call 2023,” supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation and the National Research Foundation of Ukraine.

International Workshop “Mykhailo Drahomanov’s Europe” Held on 7–8 November 2025

On 7–8 November 2025, as part of the Swiss-Ukrainian research initiative “Mykhailo Drahomanov: Switzerland on Ukraine’s Intellectual Map of Europe,” the international online workshop “Mykhailo Drahomanov’s Europe” took place. The event focused on Drahomanov’s Swiss period (1876–1889) and his intellectual legacy.

Presentation of the Mykhailo Drahomanov Digital Archive Concept at the University of Lausanne

On November 6, 2025, project members Oksana Yurkova and Svitlana Blashchuk presented the concept of the Mykhailo Drahomanov Digital Archive during an international academic event in Lausanne.

The presentation took place during the conference “War at Europe’s Doorstep: Geopolitical, Economic, and Social Implications of the Russian-Ukrainian War” at the University of Lausanne. Speaking on behalf of the team, Oksana Yurkova emphasized that Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine has made the preservation and accessibility of Ukraine’s historical heritage more relevant than ever. Digital projects are becoming one of the ways to spread Ukrainian history and promote Ukrainian intellectual ideas and products.

Participation in Swiss History Days: Panel on the Invisible Swiss Roots of Ukrainian Intellectual History

On July 9, 2025, members of the project “Mykhailo Drahomanov: Switzerland on Ukrainian Intellectual Map of Europe” co-organized a panel discussion titled Invisible Swiss Roots of Ukrainian Intellectual History as part of The Seventh Swiss History Days. The panel was co-organized and moderated by Prof. Frithjof Benjamin Schenk (University of Basel), who also heads the Ukrainian Research in Switzerland (URIS) initiative.

Roundtable on Emigrant and Exile Archives Held During International Archives Week #IAW2025

On Thursday, June 19, 2025, members of our project co-organized the roundtable discussion Emigrants’ and Exiles’ Archives: Challenges of Accessibility as part of International Archives Week #IAW2025. The event began at 14:00 and brought together archivists, historians, and digitization experts to address the complexities of preserving and accessing the documentary heritage of displaced communities.
